Purpose: The purpose of the Reading Fair is to provide K-12 student
with the opportunity to share a favorite fictional book through a
storyboard project that includes the ten elements of a story as
defined in the Mississippi Language Arts Curriculum Framework.
We are looking forward to the Durant Public School’s District Reading Fair. Last year, we had an overwhelming response of participation. We hope to exceed last year’s participation. Please encourage your child to read a book and share it with us through a storyboard display. The benefits for your child are numerous, and this event will be a memorable one for him/her.
To assist in helping your child, story boards will be on sale at the school for $2.00. Your child may bring the money to his/her teacher who will in turn purchase the storyboard from the library.
All displays should be submitted for the District Reading Fair by Tuesday, January 26, 2009.
On Wednesday, January 27, displays for grades K-3 will be viewed, Thursday, January 28, displays for grades 4-8 will be viewed, and Friday, January 29, displays for grades 9-12 will be viewed.
Attached to this letter is the Reading Fair Information Packet. Included in this packet are a parental consent form which should be read carefully, signed and returned to your child’s teacher, guidelines and criteria for displays, and a list of story elements to be included in the display.
